Medication Administration
|
The patents below protect a system for administering prescribed medications to patients within healthcare institutions. The technology described in these patents uses containers with electronic memory devices (e.g., RFID tags, enabling processors) that are programmed as part of the medication dispensing process. The memory devices are programmed with the identification number of the patient for whom the medication has been prescribed, or the qualifications of the healthcare workers who can administer the medication, and/or information about the medication within the container. The goal of the system is to ensure medications are given correctly by qualified staff and to automatically record each dose administration – without compromising nurse productivity. The system addresses the significant problem of medical errors in health care institutions.
